A Study on Self-Concept and Professional Attitude of Clinical Nurses


Abstract
The purpose of this study are to identify the level of self-concept and professional attitude of clinical nurses, and correlation of the two concepts.
This data was obtained between Aug. 12th and Aug. 24th 1991, and 232 nurses who are working at a general hospital in Taegu.
The results are as follow:
1. The mean score of self-concept was 3.61 and the score of evaluative self-concept was relatively higher than of perceptual self concept.
2. The mean score of professional attitude was 3.81.
3. The relationship between self-concept and general characteristics was found to be
statistically significant for age (F= 2.54, P < .05), marriage status (T= 2.21, P< .05), religion
(T= 2.23, P < .05), educational background (F= 15.17 P < .001 duty position (F= 7.76
), part of working (F= 4.52, P < .05), degree of job satisfaction (F= 4.0, P < 0.5).
4. The relationship between professional attitude and general characteristics was
found to be statistically significant in educational background (F= 16.13, P <.001), working experience (F= 3.51, P < .05).
5. The relationship of self-concept and professional attitude are positively correlated with statistically significant (r= .38, P <.001).
